Memorial Day
Hello Friends~
With Memorial Day's fast approach I am thinking about
a few things.
1. My mom who I miss each day
2. Getting my gardens finally planted
I know I'm late, but with rain and cold weather most
of the month I am willing to bet I am not alone on this one!
3. Going to the flea markets in spirit lake IA
Have you ever been to any of the holiday weekend fea markets?
I am a huge dumpster diver/antique collector, I especially love to
find awesome new props at these sales.. this year i am in search of a
few things I have in mind such as a kids pedal car & cool old chairs and
the perfect kids tea party table , and a tea set.
4.Photography ( for me)
get out your camera's and don't forget to capture your own families memories!
5. Spending time with family and friends
Laughing, playing & eating really good food
I love to cook, was a real chef for a while. I had a 30 year career managing restaurants, bars & country clubs. I sometimes think my cooking is why Joe married me and my kids love me LOL but not their friends when they were little they thought my kids mom cooked weird.. Kids! Ok , I'll admit I tend to not cook the ordinary things, just a bit different, more on the gourmet side :)
I never use a recipe, but I love to figure out what's in something and coming up with
my own recipe to recreate the foods I enjoyed. Friends will always ask me for a recipe for something I made , most of the time I can only share a ingredient list and
a approximation of amount with them as I never measure anything either. My Aunt Velma was a fabulous cook , she was a farm wife and the school cook, back in the day when school food was good food. Especially if you went to Owatonna Schools in Minnesota and she cooked for you! I had the privilege of growing up watching this woman create miracles in the kitchen and as I grew I was given a stool to stand on and a apron to help create those miracles with her. Her pancakes were to die for and as big as your plate HUGE! she would feed about 20 of us on Sunday mornings on the farm.. Can you even imagine flipping pancakes for that many people!
With Memorial Day coming this weekend I had to plan the big celebration menu and with that in mind I put together a few things old and new to me to try out and thought I would share with you the few great recipes that I am planning to put on my memorial day menu this year. ~Enjoy!
My Memorial Day Menu
Well , now I am really hungry and can't wait to make, share & eat these!
I hope each and every one of you have a Fun & Fabulous Holiday weekend
with your friends and family enjoying great food among other things!
~Deborah
